Spezialisierungsmodul - Spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in QCD

As a preparation for my Master's thesis, I did two proceeding mini-projects, both supervised by Prof. Fischer. The first one is the Vertiefungsmodul, the second one the Spezialisierungsmodul. The purpose of the latter is to get a felling for the status quo of the research done in the field of the Master's thesis. It is a common part of the M.Sc. curriculum at the Justus-Liebig-Universität and is awarded with 10 ECTS points.

In my case the Spezialisierungsmodul had the title "Spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in QCD". The purpose behind the report is to explain the idea of symmetries and symmetry breaking in quantum field theories with the focus on spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in QCD. It is also explained, how Goldstone bosons arise from spontaneously broken symmetries and how this effects the spectrum of light hadrons.

The whole report is about 3 and a half A4 pages long and written in a way, that should make it accessible to Bachelor's students in their third year, who are interested in the topic. Other than some basics, no extensive background in quantum field theory is needed.

The report can be accessed here. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
